Disfigured Dead

Wouter Roemers
Death metal is such a limitless genre. You can do whatever you'd like. It can be over the top technical or slow. Brutal or insane and it's all so good. When we made "Visions of Death" it just came out with a natural old school-ish vibe and that's great, but our newer material has a much more modern technical vibe. I love how death metal has evolved.

Graveyard

For me, death metal should be heavy as fuck, brutal (which doesn't necessarily mean "fast"), atmospheric and evil. If the "evil" thing is not there, you can't label yourself death metal, that's a fact. I'm so fucking close minded when it comes to metal music... I listen to the SAME hard rock, heavy, thrash, doom, death and black metal that I used to listen to 15 years ago.
  • Dagon - "Terraphobic" (USA)

    Bombworks Records
Naming theirselves after one of the Great Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft's story "Shadows over Innsmouth" Lansing, Michigan quartet Dagon release their second record through American Christian metal label Bombworks Records. "Terraphobic" consists of groovy American metal with playful Iron Maiden-esque leads/solos, Gothenburg melodies and a plethora of vocals including shouts, grunts and shrieks. The playing is solid and the technical skill is well above average. With metalcore and deathcore being on the way out Dagon bring back the more traditional Swedish sensibilities to the American market without alienating that fanbase in the process. Dagon have nautic and maritime themes as the central premise through out "Terraphobic", which is a nice change of pace from the usual splatter-horror-gore subjects that run rampant in extreme metal in general. Recorded at Random Awesome Studio in Bay City, Michigan the album comes with a modern production that doesn't sound all too triggered, computerized and sterile. Artwork, design and lay-out by Jan Yrlund (Communic, Satyrian, Týr) complements this package nicely.http://www.bombworksrecords.com/comment itWouter 6
