God In Ruins

Wywiad przeprowadził - Maciej Mińczykowski
The beginning of the band dates back to 1996, when three perverse guys decided to express their feelings through brutal sounds of death/black metal, but 2000 was actually the year God In Ruins was born. They recorded a demo stuff entitled "Agony of the Fallen Gods" in 2001 that brought three tracks of Swedish-like death metal with BM influences. Exactly a year later G.I.R., in a refreshed line-up, attacks with new material "God Is Not". Let's look what Deimon, responsible for the oral holocaust, has to say about this blasphemous creation. Hi! Did you tortured some nuns lately or terrorized any priests? Confess, confess, these are your favorite ways of entertainment, besides growling of course. The new refreshed G.I.R. sounds a bit more brutal. Do you agree, that you're heading towards extreme sound with a growing acceleration?

Hell-o, yes I must admit I like sodomizing nuns but only the experienced ones with baggy tits and half-rotten pussies, ha! As for God in Ruins' sound, it's always been extreme but I agree that our new demo is generally heavier and faster than the previous one. It's the way we've always wanted it to be and since we've got two new guitarists and we gave up the idea of using keyboards it became possible on our latest production.

Let's talk about the "Agony..." for a while. How was the response to your last year's blast? Honestly, I haven't seen or heard negative reviews of it, but few of them were quite surprising. I mean the comparisons to Cradle Of Filth. The fact that you used keyboards does not strictly place the band in the league of thousands of young corpse-paint maniacs, does it?

You're right! That's what pisses us off - I mean the comparisons with bands like Cradle of Filth, or Dimmu Borgir - because we play different music. We used a bit of keyboards only on the "Agony.." demo but keys have never been a proper instrument in G.I.R. and will never be. Although the response to that stuff was O.K. and we want more!

The Polish Apocalypse Productions released "Agony..." as a split tape with Waterfall. You have to admit, that it's a big chance to get to maniacs, mostly thank to very good distribution the label has (at least in Poland). The point is, that the promo packs, flyers etc. are again screaming "black metal". That's obvious, that you have to define your music somehow, but I think the term BM is rather infirm to describe it.

I totally agree (thanks you noticed that). We didn't define our style, it was Mittloff (the Apocalypse manager) who labeled us as a "black metal band in the tradition of old Cradle of Filth". I think he did that just to sell more of our tapes :) It's a business shit you know. Personally, I like the term one of our friends used after he'd seen our gig; he said we played "full force death black" - it's much better and true.

Currently you're looking for a label, so you can say, that the deal with Apocalypse was a one-night affair...

Yes, "one-night affair" is a good way to put it, but it's up to Apocalypse whether it's gonna be a longer relationship or not. We are thankful to Mittloff for releasing our demo because it was good for a start, but we look ahead into future. We've already recorded next demo and now we want to do a full-time material. The deal with Apocalypse was only to release the split tape so we are looking for a label all the time.

You're latest release "God Is Not" brings, like the previous one, three tracks, but you do have more stuff to offer, don't you? In case of a deal you'll have to record about half an hour of music or so.

We've got new tracks ready for an LP and lots of ideas to put there; like instrumental tracks, or a cover song, so we are ready for a deal.

I claim that you play death metal first of all, but only deaf wouldn't have noticed bigger BM influences on "God Is Not". Is it because of new guitarists? Are they responsible for the whole stuff?

First of all, we don't care if it's black or death as long as it's fucking metal! A.damn - the new guitar player wrote the music for "God is Not" and the rest of the band arranged it into such a goddam raw piece of shit as it is - so we are all the responsible ones.

How is it with your live-shows? Do you play often? Can you imagine God In Ruins as a studio project, playing rehearsals instead of concerts all the time and a full-length album every year?

We all love gigs! It's the best way to show your music to the people. Unfortunately, we don't do many shows because we live in a place where hardly any concerts are organized, and we are very lucky when we are invited to play in another town. (PEOPLE INVITE US TO GIGS!) As for the second part of your question, I think it would be possible for us to be a studio project if a situation demanded it but we don't want it - gigs are great!

In what direction will G.I.R.'s music evolve in the future? Will you provide pleasure to BM-teenagers and surprise us with sweet melodies or will you stay where you are (I don't mean stagnation!!), in the right place between death and black metal torturing the listeners with brutality and melody at same time?

Firstly, we don't try to satisfy anybody but ourselves and if it happens that people like what we've created that's great, but if not - fuck it! We have no conscious plans about the direction our music goes to but you can be sure that it's going to be pure metal - not black or death, not thrash nor heavy, but all those kinds blended into one God in Ruins style.

Now you have an opportunity to encourage the Masterful readers to face God In Ruins. What are the advantages of G.I.R.? Like every relatively young band, you're one in the sea of thousands. What makes the band worthy of paying the listeners' attention? This advertise is for free!

Well, God in Ruins has taken all which is best from black, death, thrash and heavy metal and put it together into an aggressive and brutal ,fast and slow, terrorizing and melancholic piece of goddam metal music! Everything I enumerated is there, waiting for your week souls to yield under its demolishing power! The beat will hit you down at the croach, the riffs will thrash your worthless limbs and vocals combined with lyrics shall rape your pathetic minds to the point of mental lunacy!

Thanks for your answers. Praise the Beast as you always did!

Thanx a lot Mintaj! Stay evil and addicted to vaginal juices :) "Keep the metal faith alive!"

On behalf of Masterful,
