Death metal band from the UK headed up by Hungarian guitarist Zoltán Valter, featuring ex-Cradle Of Filth bassist Robin Eaglestone. "Purulent Reality" is old school death metal inspired by the likes of Asphyx, (early) Death, Grave, Morgoth and Pestilence. The playing is mostly at a solid midtempo with carefully arranged guitar leads/solos. While delivered with the utmost competence "Purulent Reality" is just another throwback old school death metal record by a group of semi-famous members. The vocals are the weak link and lack in power, finesse and barking brutality. There's no real dread or sense of urgency to be found here and while Sectioned on paper might sound as an interesting addition to the already oversaturated old school death metal movement, this seldom translates in reality. The record feels like nothing but a glorified demo recording and the material contained within is of a similar level. It's all very competently executed and performed but the lack of soul and conviction are noticeable immediately. The splendid artwork, design and lay-out are the only good thing about this record. Despite all their good intentions and efforts Sectioned is another supposed super-group within this genre, yet the unremarkable and unspectacular nature of this record won't do much to install their name in the international scene.
