Odetosun - "Gods Forgotten Orbit"
Self-financed
Germany
How does a Viking metal band transform into a progressive metal band? I don’t fucken know how, but apparently this is what happened to ze Germans from Odetosun. Anyway, this fucken reminds me a lot of the first two Communic albums, and Nevermore. Unlike the rest of you fucken morons, I’m not masturbating to pictures of Jeff Loomis. You know, this isn’t fucken fruity power metal but technical metal with semi-death metal vocals. Yeah, the grunts are totally Amon Amarth-like, but honestly who the fuck cares? Another thing is that it is great to hear a band that actually understands the fucken importance of the bass guitar. This actually fucken reminds me of Atheist circa "Elements" in the sense that the songs are very airy and open-ended. The prominent bass guitar always fucken helps. I’m just waiting for some underground metal band to combine this kind of metal with rhythms from Barbados. Pont de replay, but with honest-to-Odin metal. Just like I’m still waiting for some metal band to finally put one and one together and combine African folk music with extreme metal. Fucken Paul Simon did such a thing with pop music already in 1986. I mean, the fuck. Just listen to the instrumental track ‘Journey to Gliese’, outside of the heavy guitars that could have fucken been a The Police song, or mid era Genesis for fuck’s sake. The tranquil section in the middle of ‘The Swarming Infinity’ could have been fucken taken from a David Gilmour era Pink Floyd album. So do the riffing and some of solo’ing. Seriously. There are even vocoder vocals in the title track, and it doesn’t fucken blow! I fucken hope Odetosun continue to progress at this fucken rate cos this album is fucken great.
